How did I become a personal trainer and on stage instructor and still leak?
Why isn’t pelvic floor mentioned by your PT or group fitness instructor?
If pelvic floor issues are affecting 4.8 million women in Australia… why is the fitness industry ignoring our needs?
I share my personal story as to why I am so passionate about pelvic floor awareness! I had 2 big babies, (with complications) yet had no pelvic floor disfunction. It was not until I started exercising post-natally at the gym that I started to leak.
Until recently, pelvic floor as a muscle has not been part of the curriculum. Many trainers and fitness instructors don’t know how to teach pelvic floor friendly exercise and many feel awkward to even mention it! This makes it even more difficult for those women to “own” up this embarrassing, yet very common issue.
Continence Foundation of Australia have recently launched pelvic floor first which aims at up-skilling the fitness industry and provide specific information to all those affected by pelvic floor disfunction.
You can find out more about this at http://www.pelvicfloorfirst.org.au
Don’t suffer in silence… the best news is that in most cases pelvic floor disfunction or leaking can be fixed without surgery and with knowledge on how to contract your pelvic floor correctly and doing so regularly!
